Sugar scrubs

                                  Sugar Scrubs

What is sugar scrub? What are they used for? Why do I use them? Are they good for me? Why sugar?  We all have questions about sugar scrubs, but let’s find out exactly what sugar scrubs are and the many benefits and uses we can get from them.

Sugar scrubs are an exfoliating body treatment. These are a much more gentle alternative to salt scrubs, that many of you have heard of. When spas began to open, they used salt scrubs as the most common treatment for the body.  Salt scrubs were considered to be more effective at exfoliating the skin because of how rough and aggressive they were. This actually hurt the body more than helped it. Soon after spas found out the salt scrubs hurt the body, they moved onto sugar scrubs. A sugar scrub actually is great for sensitive skin and those who are trying to find a new, gentle way to exfoliate the skin. Sugar scrubs hydrate your skin and leave it feeling soft and silky.

So what are the benefits to sugar scrubs?

Regularly exfoliating your skin once or twice a week helps to speed up the skin’s regeneration process, removing dead skin cells and unclogging pores to refresh, smooth and polish skin. We should exfoliate because what we eat, drink, and hormones can cause our bodies to become dry, red, puffy, etc. This is why we need to exfoliate. In order to balance out our skin we need to exfoliate often.

Why sugar scrubs?  A natural sugar scrub can help to remove dry and flaking skin cells and brighten tired, dull looking skin to promote smooth and healthy skin. It is important to give your skin a hand and make sure its unclogged and clarified. This is achieved by exfoliating regularly.

Protecting Your Brain

One of the most beneficial properties of coconut oil is the large quantity of medium-chain fatty acids (MCFA) that it contains, as opposed to the long-chain fatty acids that many other foods contain. Ketones are utilized by the brain as an important energy source and have been shown to have possible therapeutic effects on people suffering from memory loss, such as in case of Alzheimer’s disease. Additionally, unique phenolic compounds and hormones found in coconut oil may be able to prevent the aggregation of amyloid beta peptides, which are part of a leading theory concerning the cause of Alzheimer’s.

Coconut oil contains the fatty acids that help to boost your metabolism. When you cook with coconut oil or use it in any of your foods, the way that the food digests is much different than with other oils. It can also help to reduce your appetite so that you will not be snacking during the day and adding more and more calories into your diet. If coconut oil can boost metabolism and reduce appetite, then it should help you lose fat over the long term.

Creating A Skin Care Routine

cream-1327847_1920

When I was younger, my skin care routine consisted of washing my face in the shower with soap and a wash cloth. I never had acne and I was blessed with porcelain skin that was soft and worry free. Then I began to age and try new products. In my teenage years, I discover cosmetics and lotions. I also found out what exfoliating was and that I should be doing it. I put a lot of stress on my skin and it began to show. I started breaking out in hives and rashes from all of the products that I was using. I realized that my skin was fragile and I was not doing the right things to it. I clearly needed a new skin care routine. Now that I am approaching 40 years old, I have changed it again. How do you know what type of skin care routine you need? Here are some tips for women who are new at this.

What is your skin type?

When of the first things that you need to do before starting this routine is being aware of what type of skin you have. There are quite a few and you are bound to fit into one of these categories.

Normal, Oily, Dry, and Combination are all skin types. No matter what type of skin you have, there is always a chance that you may have very sensitive skin. This is also important to know when you are about to start a new skin care routine. If you have discovered that your skin is allergic to a specific product, try to find out what ingredient it is allergic to. This will help you to decide what to try as part of your new skin care routine.

Once you have your products, it’s time to start taking better care of your skin!

Here is what your daily routine should look like:

Mornings:

Apply a cleanser as soon as you wake up. This will help get all of the residue off of your face from the night before.

Use a toner to help balance out your skin after you have cleaned it.

Apply a moisturizer as soon as the toner dries.

Apply sunscreen to your face to keep it protect everyday. I apply sunscreen 3 to 5 times a day because of my higher elevation and I teach preschool and we are always outside!

Night time Routine:

Remove all of your make-up with a gentle cleanser.

Make sure that you exfoliate. Make sure it is gentle on your skin.

Apply the toner.

Lastly, apply your acne or anti-aging night time treatments. It is never too late to start on the anti-aging creams!
